What makes a real SUV or truck? UpArms had a good point that got me thinking one day. With the number of new cross-over vehicles comingo out on the market and the myriad of traction control features available these days - How does one tell the difference between a real truck or SUV and those other "thingys"... I guess we'll call them AWD wagons.
What's the difference between SUV's and Trucks? Seems simple enough? Even this is getting blurry: for example the H2 SUT. Trucks must have a usable bed. Makes sense right? My opinion is that less than 5 feet of cargo space is not very useful. A trim level that is useful in some form, for any kind of tradesman or farm work. SUVs - must have an enclosed cargo area. Real trucks and SUVs must also have the following capabilities to seperate them from the AWD wagons: -2 speed transfer case -Water fording capabilites up to the top of the (plastic) bumper. -Towing capability of 1/2 it's own curb weight. -Absolutely no disclaimers stating "THE model-x IS NOT BE USED OFFROAD" like the Highlander Hybrid. -Cost less than $100,000. Hey we're tax-payers, not the government. We can't afford those $600 hammers and toilet seats.

Re: What makes a real SUV or truck? A few things that make a real truck/suv from my point of view are:
-has more torque than horsepower -the aftermarket provides some way to fit 37"s on it -has a solid rear axle minimum |
