Commander Problems I recently purchased the V-6 Commander and have had it in the shop 4 times for the same problem. In less than a month. Now Jeep is involved and I would like to know if there is anyone else having problems. Mine has a loud whistle or high pitched vibration that they can't seem to be fixed. Also a loud air sound from the right front air duct. Becoming very frustrated. Any suggestions out there?

Re: Commander Problems Hey WPA!
Your Commander- is the noise inside or outside? If outside, do you have roof rails on it? Are they factory or A/M? Try repositioning them to the rear of the Jeep and see if that changes anything for you. If it is inside, check door seals and rear vent flaps which would be hidden by the rear quarter panel fascias. If the noise is engine compartment, power steering pump will most likely be the culprit. Also - is this intermittent or does it happen at certain temps, speeds, turning, etc. Let me know- The Jeeper |

Re: Commander Problems We just purchased a new Jeep Commander Limited with all the options and the 5.7 Hemi. Less than 1500 km ( Toronto, Canada ) the power steering failed - all the hydraulic fluid was lost. Went in for repair, Came back with engine problems, it's running rougher than before a very noticeable difference..Additionally while driving the tire pressure indicators intermittently drop in 7 PSI amounts - This happens on all for wheels and is very sporadic eg: the 2 front may indicate 234 and the rear tires are at 227, then it will reverse or sometimes only one will show the correct pressure. I suspect this is software related and maybe the onboard computer is trying to compensate in some strange way - hence the rough engine? Any one seen this. PS My dealership Unique Chrysler (Burllington) here in Ontario is absolutely useless..

Re: Commander Problems Purchased 4.7 V-8 Commander 12-28-05 from Arrigo Dodge in West Palm Beach, Fl. Spent all day in shop trying to get high pitched whistle coming thru drivers side of dash fixed. It is extremely noticeable at speeds over 45 mph especially when driven into the wind. Service dept said they were aware of the problem but had no fixes nor had they rec'd any repair bulletins from Daimler/Chry. Suggested I use the recirculation selector and not fresh air intake. Sales dept said they didn't build the vehicle and if I wasn't happy I should file suit under the Lemon Law. Next step is to contact DaimlerChrysler Customer Center, PO Box 21-8004, Auburn Hills, Mi, 48321-1997. 800-992-1997. www. jeep.com.

Re: Commander Problems Also the Limited with all options (Toronto, Canada). Only about 700kms. on her. From day of delivery I hear power steering pump whine at idle. On a very cold morning start up it's very loud for less than 1 second...
I hope not to have any problems. ![]() |

Re: Commander Problems I believe I know the source of the incredible Commander Whistle... at least on my Commander. I'll post it up one level along with comments on mileage and other things I strongly dislike about the vehicle.

Re: Commander Problems Okay here we go....
My wife and I purchased TWO the same day. She got the regular Commander and I got the LTD. They both really looked nice. Driving off the lot with my brand new shiney vehicle, I noticed a light came on in the dash. It was the ESP warning light. I turned around and went right back to the dealer. They immediately took the thing into the shop and 20 minutes later came out and told me it was a "fibbing indicator" that there was nothing wrong with the Electronic Stability Program and that they did not have a program yet to vet out the programming issue. It was okay to drive, and they would call me when they got the upgraded software. By the time I reached the first service date I had not heard from them on the ESP thing so when I took it in for the oil change and check list, they said they would check it out. Got the thing back and the light was off. Great! Next day on my way through the Smokie Mountains it came on again, only this time when it did, the brake pedal "softened"....went down about 2 inches. Since it was "okay to drive" they told me when I called them, I finished my trip and took it in for what was supposed to be an hour. 3 hours later they said they couldn't find anything wrong. I left with the ESP light still on. They were going to call me after they talked to they factory...yeah, right, no call. Then, it stalled as I was pulling out into traffic. Then it stalled when I was on the ramp launching my boat, then it stalled when I was getting on I-24 at speed. Tonight, while my wife and I were coming home from Sonic.....her's stalled and she told me it was the 3rd or 4th time it had happened. Anybody else as thrilled with theirs as we are with ours? I am going Lemon Law, wouldn't you? Anybody know how that works? How much time have I got? We've had them since Deccember of 2005. They are 2006 of course. Thamks for any help! Walterfish ![]() |

Re: Commander Problems I would think Lemon Laws will be different, depending on which state you live in.
In Indiana a few years ago, we had to use it on a DCX product. It had to be in for the same problem at least 3 times in a year's time (I think); no more than 18,000 miles on the vehicle; and all dealership options needed to be exercised before we could implement the Lemon Law. You'll have to be persistent; the dealership will try to stonewall you all along the path. |

Re: Commander Problems I have the same problem. I just bought mine 2 days ago. Today I took the car on the freeway. At 55 mph, I started to hear this "whistling" coming from the windshield area near the driver's seat.
I am going to take the car back to the dealer next week - has your problem been fixed? |

Re: Commander Problems I have the exact same problem. I took my first long trip after recently purchasing my Jeep Commander and I heard that same annoying whistle. Do we know where the problem stems from?
Also, not once, but twice, whilel driving, my friend's knee barely hit the ignition key while driving my Commander and it turned off the Commander while going 80 mph. We had to pull over on the interstate and it was really scary! Shouldn't it lock up while driving? This was a really scary experience and it happened to us twice. Anyone else experience that? |
