Bigger Tires on a 4 cylinder?
I just purchased a 2001 wrangler a little less than a month ago, and I want to eventually get 32" or 33" tires for it, but my only question is, am I going to lose a considerable amount of power since it has 4 cylinder engine? What are some of the other problems I might run into as well?

Thanks
Chris

Did the same to my YJ. (2.5, 5sp) Stuffed 31X10.5/15 under the flares. Stock height. Just fit. Rubs on sharp turns. Speedo is off 12mph (Speeding tickets prove it). Fuel Mileage? I don't consider..It's a Jeep; lucky to get 16mpg on a good day with no crosswinds. In your case on the TJ, I would be concerned with the diagonostic III system; you run the risk of altering the emissions,ABS sensors, and other myriad of components "run" by the PCM. I am not sure how it affects driveability because I know of few TJs around that have been altered much. Pretty much bone stock.

Re: Bigger Tires on a 4 cylinder?
Yeah, I lost some power at highway speeds.YJ's 5th doesn't last up hills at 65...other than that no HUGE noticeable loss of power. Though when topless and fully open..the open tub does attract a large amount of turbulence and will slow down a 2.5 with bigger tires..sometimes struggles in 4th at highway speeds!
But it's a Jeep, not a Corvette....made to meander down the road and trail; not race from every stoplight to the next-you know what I'm sayin'?
And also the FLOWMASTER Exhaust did improve it some.....

I've got a 97 TJ with 31's. No noticeable affect on horsepower. I swapped out the speedometer gear to accommodate the lager tires. I recently passed Maryland state inspection with no problem. Good Luck!

Re: Bigger Tires on a 4 cylinder?
Whenever swapping to larger tires, you lose torque, not horsepower. Torque is what you FEEL when you mash the gas. You will need to re-gear the axles to a 4.56 ratio with 33" tires to feel stock again. You will not do anything to emissions systems or PCM just by changing tires. You are covering a greater distance with one revolution of alarger tire, which requires more energy. This taxes your torque curve. The only way to get it back is to re-gear. A qualified tech can re-gear your rig in a day.

I have a six cylinder 2004 Wrangler running on 225/75/15 tyres. Is it possible to put on larger tyres without changing the wheels. Also does this raise any problems with handling or incorrect spedo readings?

Great answer! I had a friend who went to the 33's on his and found he couldn't pass a bread truck on a flat stretch of freeway. It cost about $1500 to have ORW re-gear his yj but he said it was worth every dime! This not only affects your freeway but off road performance as well.

The biggest you can get under the wheel wells without rubbing is the 31x10.5x15 on a stock Wrangler X. If you have rubbing while turning you can adjust the steering stop bolt to reduce your turning radius.
