I am very interested in buying a 2006 Jeep Unlimited, BUT!

I am curious about the Everyday-Driving RELIABILITY of the Jeep. The ride “quality” of this Jeep is perfect for me; I just need info on the engine. When I take this Jeep off-road it will only be scenic trails and such. I will not be Rock-Crawling. Everyday drives will be in heavy traffic about 50 miles round-trip.

-Will the engine LAST?
-Will I be better off with a Toyota Tacoma? (The price of a 4x4-coma is outrageous)
-How many miles can you put on the Chrysler 4.0-liter I-6 engine?

Yes buy the New Wrangler, It is a great vehicle. Get the entry level one for around 21k or something. That engin will last a very long time. JDJ

Yes, I would buy it. The I6 is a bulletproof engine as long as you do regular maintenance and don't abuse it. I've had my 06 Unlimited for over a year now and would not part with it. However, when you are buying a Wrangler you should always take note that it is a true off road machine...and the vehicle is much more in its element when driving on dirt or snow than on pavement. I live in the city and don't drive to work, however it I had to commute daily any distance I'm not sure if the Jeep would be the best choice. I mainly drive my 06 Unlimited on weekend trips, and park it in the garage during the week...

I'd say do it only if you're not concerned with low gas mileage. I have an 06 Unlimited and I love it. I traded in an 02 Chevy Trailblazer so this is now my only vehicle and I drive to work daily - put about 30 - 50 miles on it a day with errands out of town during the week. I haven't gone off road yet, but I'm looking forward to it. My main reason for getting an Unlimited is the extra cargo and rear seat space. It's sooo worth it if you have passengers or "stuff". Downside is, finding Wrangler accessories that are Unlimited specific. Plus, 06 is the last year the two door Unlimited was made so its sentimental to me.

Go for it! I have an 05 Unlimited which I lifted, put on 33" MT tires and added other goodies to. It is awsome off road, but even lifted it is a good vehicle on the highway. Believe it or not, it will still cruise nicely on the freeway. Gas mileage is around 14-15, so don't expect to pass all of the stations. I have not had any troubles with the engine, but I do maintain it well. The I-6 is tried and tested and really is pretty much bomb-proof.

All in all, it is my favorite vehicle of any that I have owned.
