Problems with my 05 Rubicon Since I first drove off the lot after purchase I have had problems. Has anyone had problems with the 6 speed manual trans being hard to get in gear and clanky. The engine has acquired a ticking also. The dealership says there is no problem, but if there isn't I will never by another jeep. This thing sounds like the old grain trucks we drove on the farm as a kid. Has anyone had similar problems.

Re: Problems with my 05 Rubicon I have a 05 Unlimited, The 6 speed has me feeling the same way. I have had Jeeps for a long time and this may be the last.
I have trouble with finding the gear mostly for 3rd and 5th. And also it will while shifting into 1st or 2nd it "hesitates” That lurching thing, you know looks like you can drive a stick. Dealer says forget about 1st and start out in 2nd, that helps some but overall it is a disappointment. |

Re: Problems with my 05 Rubicon I have an 05 rubicon and have the same issue of the ticking sound , I took it back to my dealer and he told me it was the injectors. I have a 93 yj and I have a valve stick everynow nad then and it sounds the same as my 05. Unfortunantly I have an automatic.

Re: Problems with my 05 Rubicon Hey, Jeeps are supposed to be rough and basic. Every Wrangler is unique, and if there is nothing wrong, except for the transmission, you can say your Wrangler is 'one of a kind.'

Re: Problems with my 05 Rubicon We are a Jeep dealer and there is a Tech Bulletin about Wrangler 6 speeds not staying in reverse. We just did one and found some of the gears were screwed up when we did the fix. Customer says it works great. Your dealer should get off his butt and do a tear down if its under warranty, I'm sure he will find something. All the 6 speeds we sell work like silk unless something is wrong with them.

Re: Problems with my 05 Rubicon My 6 speed transmission w/ less than 1000 miles doesn't work like silk. I have experienced all of the complaints above. My 48 Willys w/ 100k is tighter! What a disappointment! Based on Johnsonjeep's (and several wrenches from the Moab area) recomendation I have made an appointment to have the dealer tear it down. I'll post the results when they complete the work. I am hoping for the best. Incidentally the "ticking" in the engine is no problem-It's been present on every jeep I have ever owned-including the Willys! Stay tuned.

Re: Problems with my 05 Rubicon Did you get this resolved? I ask because I brought my 05' Rubicon in today and it has a vibration between gears and is hard to find 3rd and 5th. I bought it used with 12,900 miles on it. My 01 TJ, 5 speed was smooth. The dealer just called and told me the "tires were feathered" and I am feeling the vibration. Although this may be true why am I only feeling it between gears? Not really believing this! I am paying $150 to transfer the warranty so I should be covered.
Any info would be helpful. Thanks and have a great day, Tim |

Re: Problems with my 05 Rubicon Johnsonjeep do you have any more info on this?
My 05' Rubicon has a vibration between gears (feels like synchro's). It has 14,000 miles and I bought it a couple of months ago. I brought it in today to transfer the warranty and the dealer says there is nothing wrong but it is not smooth shifting at all. Thanks, Tim |

Re: Problems with my 05 Rubicon Hi, I think I can speak to this issue your having with some passion. I bought a slightly used 2005 Jeep Unlimited with 16k on it. I first noticed that it wouldnt stay in reverse unless i held some pressure on the shifter. The sales guy failed to mention that when he brought it around for me to drive. I knew there was something going on with the six speed but because it still had warranty i bought it knowing i could take it to the dealer. I had many complaints soon after i bought it. The engine had a ticking noise from what sounded like a lifter at 2000 - 2200 rpm. It was driving me crazy. I tried different oil viscosities, even marvel mystery oil. I wasnt sure what kind of maintenance it had pervious and the dealer told me it was normal. Just the injectors. I wasnt buying that. Injectors are noisey all the time not only at that rpm. The dealer pulled out the trans and determined that the reverse gear assy was destroyed by the previous owner going into to gear as it was still moving?! They replaced the assy under warranty and that problem was fixed. The problem was that when at idle and warm with the clutch out the trans will rattle like something is coming apart. I was also told that this is normal. Again i didnt accept that as mine seemed 10 times noisier than any other i heard. It really sounded like a bad ac compressor when idling. They replaced the transmission complete and the noise is gone. As far as the ticking noise.. they replaced the lifters twice including the cam and distributor parts. Just last month after alot of screaming i just got a new engine. Now everything is quiet for now. I also own a 46 willys and expect that to drive and sound as it does but not this one. Its a great jeep but i just had to stick with it to get it dialed in. You really have to press the dealer and become the squeaky wheel. Good luck.
