Jeep Emergency Response With Hurricane Katrina and other natural disasters, I was wondering if anyone belongs to a JEEP Club that helps local emergency agencies during a time of crisis? The reason I ask is because in the South Bend, IN area, there is a Hummer club that does something very similar--although it might be a national effort (I'm not sure). I believe the Hummer club is associated with the Red Cross and was asked to help out in New Orleans.
If I were to start a similar type club, I would want to do it with the most intrigrity possible. That means JEEP owners would have to pass a criminal background test, including not having any DUI convictions, undergo a certified first aid/CPR course or disaster relief type course, and a driving record check. I wouldn't want any lead foot volunteers. This club wouldn't be into "law enforcement", but rather to assist local emergency response with getting equipment or personnel to hard to reach places. Also, to check on disabled/elderly persons who have serious medical conditions during severe storms. What is everyone's opinion? If you're in a similar type club, post some of your thoughts/experiences. |
