I just got done building a custom 2.5" stainless exhaust on a 304 powered CJ 7. Here's a few pics b21df8f26090dd836190761880a8b47e.jpg3e2fa71db059c1a9119bf4dc03186910.jpgae4545a478ae8a7237fd5daa2017ab84.jpg8af1774b73b4dbed83f74de507a8213a.jpg6322a47a03387673d4353070e3c8d5c0.jpg76598074d68f33183e589c541bee67d2.jpg2e0873de13880c9eca06f159088750d8.jpg582c0fe2fa5d2b0c21af10ae7f08176f.jpg425ca5e7082c799748e0862443cb6ccb.jpgce3adabeca69e2638b1a240fe40eda96.jpg

Nice, welds look great and nice sound. Did you back fill the pipes with gas when welding? It looks like you did in this pic.

No I didn't purge it while welding. It's not a med gas line so wasn't worth the extra cost and time.

In the pic what looks like a hose is actually just my clear shield hanging off my gas bottle regulator

In hindsight I should have gone smaller like 2" to make fitment a lil easier but it all worked out. Had to build from manifolds back. No one makes the Y pipe anymore

Nice work!

Thanks

I'm at it again this time building a new custom exhaust in 2.5 stainless but for my Jeep that's long overdue.

Pics coming soon

That SS should last a few lifetimes.

Great work, MM. I would use flanged couplings. They are your friends if you need to replace the rear main seal on your engine or that short life thrust bearing on your clutch.

Which one? The 304 is accessible and has joints for dissembly

Mine is an inline 6 with a header

I mean those slip joints are very forgiving during initial install but very difficult to separate when it comes time to drop the transmission.

I couldn’t get away with the single exhaust pipe on my rig. It’s a tiny CJ5 without a lift and transfer case clocked horizontal so I had to tuck in the pipes parallel with the frame rails and no room for a wye. Texas forces me to have cat converter to keep it street legal so my only option was dual exhaust and a cat and muffler for each pipe. I like the note of a single pipe better than dual. A tight overall fit but it but it works just fine.

5s are a little more difficult it can still be done but really you'd have to do like a 1.75" 2 at max and really pay attention to the routing. If paying someone to build it it wouldn't be cost effective. If you can do it yourself you could do it for about 500 bucks cheaper if you don't use stainless.

I'll post some pics of mine in a bit.

So I missed a few pics or rather all of them as I built as I was to excited to be done. So here's a video of her running. She no longer sounds like a massive V8 but also the exhaust dumbs out the back and not under my seat from an advanced auto special of a muffler.KIMG0041.JPG

This guy with a late model Chevrolet truck had an amazing exhaust note coming out his tail pipe. I mean great great note with no drone yet throaty and not loud. Asked him what he had. A muffler delete! Go figure.

Had to have something other than a straight pipe
