I'm getting my 83 ready for paint and I noticed that the caulk, or whatever was used on the seams/joints is loose or missing. Is there something other than paintable caulk that should be used?

Thanks

Sounds like you are talking about bondo. I would suggest not using it as it can fall off when the Jeep body starts flexing off road.

Most of the automotive world calls it "seam sealer".

That's about all it is, too......paintable caulk.

You can find some good stuff at most any auto-body supply store. The chain parts houses will probably have something similar. Can't speak for the quality at the chain stores, though.

Seam sealer is not just calk, no way, no how. Actually quite tough, kind of expensive as well. clean the seam very well and wear rubber gloves. :D

They are very proud of that stuff, starts around $15 for a tube about the same size as a tube of caulking. Good thing it's a small tub. :)

I imagine it has a very short shelf life when it is opened so I would not plan on using it again a couple months down the line.

I used Extreme Hold Liquid Nails Construction Adhesive and it worked very well. I was even able to sand it a little so it was smooth/rounded with the adjacent panels. Turned out great.
