Can't remember how the axle felt before I removed it. I only used a slide hammer to back the axles out so I could install new gears. I put the axle back together and I can move the hub in and out about 1/4". The flange is definitely snugged up to the backing plate. Looks like the other side will do the same after installed. Did the bearings slide out of location due to the slide hammer? The axle can't dart in and out 1/4" right? What am I not understanding?

Edit: I removed the axle nut on this side thinking it had to come off. Then slide hammered the axle not remembering it's two pieces. Did I separate the two causing this slack?

The pressed-in locking collar might have slipped. My two cents.

I think you're right. It's like the bearing is sitting a 1/4" deeper than the race. I'll follow up after I put it in the press. Thanks.
