I lost an argument with a guard rail two weeks ago and couldn't steer afterwards. I just got the steering box apart and the worm shaft is broken.

I'd like to repair the box if possible instead of buying a rebuilt unit or walking through 5 acres at the u-pull-it.

Thanks
Dave

Thanks, that's the one. But for that price plus the bearings & seals kit, I can get a reman unit from a local parts store.

Is this for a manual box, and what year? I might still have the whole steering box from my '77 laying around from my power steering conversion

Yes, manual box for a '76 CJ5. The Pitman shaft was 32 splines, and bigger than 3/4" so I guess 13/16. I didn't check the inputs splines.

I'll check this evening and see if I still have it.

I looked in my spare parts bin and around the shop this weekend and couldn't find it. It may have found another home already, it's been a while since I swapped it out.
