Misc. Why is the rear axle narrower than the front?

Can anyone tell me why the narrow track wheel to wheel is--front (53 inches) rear (50.5 inches) and the wide track wheel to wheel is --front (56 inches) rear (54.6 inches) I used spacer to make them the same 🤷‍♂️

Diff Wheel Seal Locking Hubs with Quadra Trac

Rebuilding the Dana 30 on my new to me 1979 CJ7. Wheel seals should be easy. These locking hubs have been difficult. Evidently, the kit for the locking hubs comes with spindles. Those spindles use a different wheel seal than the stock parts. NAPA sold me SKF part 21159 for $22.90 per seal...

    Diff axle question

I have an 80 CJ5, 20 years ago when I did a frame-off restoration on it, I took out the AMC 20 rear diff and put in a Dana 44 from I think was out of a 76 CJ. I found an old post on here where a gentleman listed all the axle widths through the years and referenced a Jeepteck website...

Misc. Remove WARN locking hub - easy?

Hello. I have included a picture of the WARN hub I want to remove (to clean) and then put it back on. I can clean it while its still attached (with a screwdriver bit LOL) but its super tedious (and filthy). Is this something that is easy enough and I can just take it off (without removing the...

    Steering Steering shaft alignment

Replaced the TS switch recently. When I put the steering wheel and lock plate back together I oriented the shaft with the mark at 12:00. The lock plate had the same mark and went back in the same way. With the steering wheel back on the wheel is 90 degrees off which is annoying to say the least...

Steering Power to manual steering conversion

Greetings to all. I am considering a power to manual steering conversion. Why, you might ask. Because I like the sportier feel of a manual and the weight reduction is an extra. My question is, does it really take too much of an effort to steer all the way to lock with the vehicle at full...

Steering What brand spindles did you use ?

I'm doing my ball joints, axle u joints and brakes on my 80 cj7 with the dana 30. I think I need to replace the spindles because of all the hammer marks from the P.O. not using the spindle puller socket. What brand spindles do you recommend ? I see Crown but are they're better ones to use ...

    Suspension Bump Stops

Wondering what bump stop options people have used. I have a 86 CJ7 with 4" of lift. I need to add longer bump stops and trying to decide what options I have. I mostly do rock crawling in Moab low speed. Dont know if I want to go to hydraulic or not. I am willing to spend the money if I...

    Steering Wheel

Wondering what wheels others are using? I still have my factory steering wheel but not real fond of it. Too thin, too large diameter. I wish I could find something very similar in appearance with a slightly smaller diameter and a little thicker. Ideas? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

What's the wheel size on my 1986 CJ7?

Hi there. Own a 1986 CJ7 Laredo. Looking to replace the back spare tire with one that matches the other four already on the jeep. I found a couple OEM wheels online (ranging in price from $80-$125). The two I found are different sizes, one if 15x8, the other is 15x7. My questions are: 1...

73 cj5 lift and wheel bearing questions

I am bringing a 73 Cj5 back to life. Can anybody educate me on how the suspension was setup? I am trying to determine the type of lift on this thing. Right now it is clearing 33x9.50r15 tires. It has 9-10 leafsprings, but that is all I can tell. Also, how hard is it to replace the wheel...

    Stock '86

considering my lift options for my new to me 1986 CJ. Any reason not to consider a SOA conversion versus a 4" lift kit? Would like to fit 33s easily or possilbly 35s with a bit more work. Axles will be out for rebuild and regearing so thats why I am considering the SOA at this time, easy to cut...
