    Help Tie Rod Flip

I have been reading a lot about the pros and cons of drop pitman arms vs tie rod flips to help steering after the suspension is lifted. The TRF seems pretty straight forward and there are available kits to do this to the tie rod and drag link. I haven’t seen any info on what guys are doing with...

Tie rod ends- taper too short

Bought left and right outer tie rods Crown brand. Didn’t realize until tightening them up the taper is shorter and threads longer. Tried washers it still won’t torque without bottoming out. Are they the wrong ones?

What kind of tie rod ends are these?

I think my tie rod ends need replacement (they move too easily by hand). The PO installed a high-steer setup. Almost all setups I've seen like this use GM 1-ton tie rod ends. Can someone confirm what tie rod ends these are? Any recommended brands for replacement?

Tie rod ends left vs right

I'm replacing my tie rods and ends. Are there any conventions or reasons on which side to put which thread, ie left hand thread on the left side? Also, the drag link from the pitman arm to the steering arm is a long solid rod with a short coupling sleeve. Put the sleeve a the wheel end or...

CJ7 Wide Track Tie Rod Tube and Drag Link Lengths?

Hi All, Not near my '86 CJ7, I have a couple of questions and I need to order some tube today. Factory tie rod tube length (just tube, not the TREs)? Drag link, including sleeve (however you have it adjusted) length? I suppose for the drag, the bolt center to the end of the adjusting sleeve...

    Front Half Cage Tie In

Anyone have any experience in buying a front half cage kit to tie into your CJ/YJ roll bar? Many of the companies that use to make them don't and I have found a couple small companies but not thrilled with the look.

    tie rod end

Hallo, does the cj7 86 standard tie rod end have the same measurements as the Tj tie rod ends. I am looking for the steering link flip - high steering and i am looking for inserts to get the taper the other way. I found inserts for the tj but will they work for the CJ7 tie rod ends? Thanks Frank

    Tie rod/drag link

I recently purchased a heavy duty tie rod and drag link for my cj7 the new one as well as stock one mounted to knuckle from the bottom with castle nut on top. I've seen people with the tie rod and drag link on the top instead but the hole in knuckle only allows it to fit from bottom has anyone...

Curved Dana 44 Tie Rod, CJ7 Steering Linkage

Hello, new to the forum and seeking out my first CJ. I’ve located a clean 85 that has my serious interest. It has a Dana 44 front that has me stumped. The front leaf hangers have been relocated to the outer frame. I’ve researched this mod and I’m comfortable there. It’s the steering...

Checking Tie rods and Drag links

So after checking my Steering components, I'm starting to get a bit confused. I have a 1971 CJ-5 and my tie rod/drag links look like its from a late model CJ5 instead. It looks identical to the setup in the Troubleshooting & Correcting Steering technical thread, with the exception of a drop...

Tie rod on TOP of steering arm?

I just received my Rusty's HD tierod and drag link replacement today! Talk about beefy, at least compared to the stock components. I was wondering if anyone here has gone ahead and installed their steering components on the top side of their steering arm? Are the holes tapered from...

    Tie rod flip, why?

Sorry for what might be a stupid question but I'm a newbie and trying to learn about all the tricks of the trade. I assume that tie rod flip means putting them on top instead underneath. Mine or underneath but I see pics with them on top. Why would you do that? Advantages? Disadvantages?

Tie rods and tie rod flip

I damaged my tie rod and draglink beyond repair on my 6, and I'm making up new ones using heavy wall tube and threaded inserts. To avoid obstruction with the springs I'm looking at doing a tie rod flip using Goferit inserts. My question is I have a RHD Jeep that uses the special "Y" branch style...

Tie Rod and Drag Link hitting each other

I'm very new to the Jeep world, and I've never really tinkered with any steering components at all. I'm in a 1978 CJ5, and every time I turn the wheel more than 60% left or right I hear a popping noise. After closer inspection of all the linkage up front, I noticed some scars on the tie rod...

    Tie Rod Removal on a 74 CJ5
