    Engine 1978 CJ5 304 Heads

Hello all!! I have 78 cj5 I am working on that my buddy previously owned. It has been sitting over 10 yrs. And I’m trying to bring it back to life. It has a 304 in it. I broke it down and took everything to the machine shop to get checked out. While checking out the heads, he called and told me...

Headers - installing rectangular port headers onto dog leg port heads

I've got the 304 in my '76 CJ5. Have tried two sets of the Summit Racing fenderwell headers - which btw are the FlowTech headers, just sold as their brand. Both sets of the FlowTech's fit improperly. On the driver's side the collector flange was hard up against the underside of the body, while...

    304 and 360 heads

Will 304 heads swap over to a 360 block? Not looking to build a hi-po engine, but amc 360's seem to be rare around here and I found a shortblock. He said he was bit by the soft gear hard gear thing on the distributor. So the cam gear is probably shot then? I need to go look at it. But the heads...

8 cyl Dogleg heads and Edelbrock Performer intake

So anyone wanna take a stab at what the dogleg heads and the Edelbrock Performer manifold are worth? I was thinking $300-$400. Sound fair?

    319-6291C heads on 304?

Hello all, 1st post here. I recently bought a 1979 cj5 with a 304v8. A couple of months ago I found another engine out of a '79 jeep that was dissassembled, the block bored .060" over, mains align bored, and the crank polished. It came with new aluminum pistons already mounted to rods, an...

    "Which" 350 is the One?

Hi all, What have the folks who put in 350's used? So I've heard and read that installing a Chevy Small Block 350 is the better way to upgrade from my old i6 to V8 power, and not going with the AMC 304. However, when I called my local used engine shop nearby they asked 'Which 350 are you...

    Installing 1974 304 heads on 1979 304 block

Ok, I got the rebuilt heads and they are 1974 cast numbers and my engine is a 1979. I just have a couple of questions before doing the swap on my next day off. 1. 1974 heads on 1979 block ok? I assume so as I have read others have done it. 2. Use copper spray on the fel-pro head gasket or...

    360 Cylinder heads

Well, after replacing timing cover, oil pump, water pump, etc.... I pulled the stock 2 bbl intake to put my Edelbrock 4 bbl on and guess what? Cracked *&^(*)*%^% cylinder head! Yes, I am a little pissed. 2 questions. Will a 304 head fit a 360? If not, or even if it did, where is a good...

    Insurance heads up

I am probably the only one that didn't know this, but I will post it just in case there are others that are paying too much for your classic car insurance. I have been with Allstate all my life because my mother worked at Sears for 30 years. I called my agent to insure my jeep and specified...

    360 with 304 heads?

I was tightening up my motor mounts yesterday and noticed under the mount a big "360" cast into the block. The heads are definitely 304- dogleg exhaust ports and all- is this possible? I've been buying all parts for a 304 and I know that most are the same but I may have used a different cam...

    Heads Up on Rampage Buckets

This is a pretty specific situation because I can only speak for this specific model but...... I am peeved because my cj originally did not have a sliding passenger seat so I decided to buy a YJ seat bracket from a dude on CL for the passenger side with the sliding assembly. My thought process...

    401 heads have double gaskets

Any idea why the PO of my Jeep would double stack the head gaskets? Guy who is taking it apart for me thinks it may be due to the heads being warped. Sound right? Not sure how they would know when putting it together that they were not flat, but looking for thoughts/suggestions.
