Good day all! So, I started working on installing my Howell TBI on my 84 CJ7 last night. I thought I'd do it "right" and clean up all of the unnecessary wires while I was at it. I encountered a few minor mysteries that I didn't have time to trace down yet. It was late so I snapped a few photos and called it a day. I was hoping the experts might weigh in on at least one or two of these to save me a little time digging through the diagrams in the Chilton manual.
This on the firewall. Seems to be a control module of some sort. Plastic box with circuitry inside. Wiper control? Something else? Not a clue yet.
Relay. Horn? Something else?
I don't even know what to call these things. It looks like a vacuum port on top, but they were not connected.
I'm trying to retain the functionality of the manifold heater post-TBI conversion so I'm trying to make sure I don't accidentally rip that stuff out.
Unrelated, but I also have this mess under the dash. This is probably a task for another day, but I have at least one bare wire hanging and touching the floor. The previous owner was clearly a fan of doing electrical work.
This is my first time really getting into a vehicle harness at a major level so I'm trying to me methodical and certain before I start yanking wires.
Thanks in advance!
Jeff

Not sure about the first one.
The second pic is a relay. For what, I do not know. Maybe horn....
Here are the vac switches in your last picture.

The relay is the manifold heater relay/choke switch.
If you are "Nuttering" the CJ (which you are by going TBI) You will find that the emissions harness is essentially it's own harness. IIRC there is only one wire that needs to be cut and then spliced back in. If you start with disconnecting the computer and test connectors and following them to their end connection you will be good. IF however you feel the need to cut a wire, I would definitely start the CJ just to make sure you didn't cut a necessary wire.
The "circuit board" in pic #1 will be one of the things that will go away, as will all the vacuum parts in pic # 3. Pic #2 relay will stay.
You will end up with more wire on the floor than will be in the CJ when you finish.

Purple wire under the dash with factory connector (if solid purple no white trace) is the oil pressure gauge connector.

One more thing. When you start taking covers off wires, and old electrical tape you will find splices taped with duct tape. It is factory.

I noticed. That was definitely a "What the heck?" moment. Hey, it beats the wire nuts the PO used to wire up a few things under the hood.
