i am new here and i'm a bit excited to start in on the new cj. one of my first vehicles in high school was a cj7 my dad and i redid back in 1998-1999. i always regretted selling it. anyhow, pops has a terrible bout w cancer recently and is back on his feet, (anemia converting to mds converting to leukemia and then add in myelofibrosis). i donated some stem cells and he's moving forward with a great outlook. i can't wait to start another cj w him and keep this one. i will be documenting the rebuild. back to my original question. the windshield needs replacing. i saw somewhere online and can't find it now, there is a way to glue in a replacement vs using the gasket? much like the tj and jk? is this true?

Welcome aboard ! Glad your Dad is doing better.

The CJ frame isn’t really set up to glue the glass in - the opening is sized to accept the glass with the gasket. I would go with new gaskets and glass. However, if you want glued in glass, a YJ frame is a good option. There are a couple modifications required to get it to work, but nothing major. The holes for the windshield hold down knobs are spaced differently - a new bracket fixes that issue. You will also need to cut openings in the bottom of the windshield frame for the defrost...... again, not super difficult.

Wonder if you’d do me a favor? I bought mine supposedly with a 4”lift, and either that’s not correct or my springs are tired. Would you measure the the actual length of the spring, center of bolt to center of bolt, following the curve of the spring so I can compare to mine? That would be great. But no rush......

Thanky

To answer your question, Yes you can glue a windshield in your CJ frame. That is How i did mine. But you must use a YJ windshield and the YJ gaskets. Google jeep glass, there is a guy that sells a kit with, Factory glass with the Jeep logo on it, Glue, and the outer gasket. The inner gasket he sells separately. Inner gasket is more for looks and not really required. If i were to do it again i would use some contact cement on the inner gasket because it tends to want to move around while you are glueing and installing the glass.
