Hi all,
I am new to the Jeep world and this forum, I have wanted an older Jeep for a very long time and I have been fortunate enough to pick up a 1980 CJ-7 recently. I am learning some of the quirks that come with owning a 38 year old vehicle. My most recent issue is the wipers. I didnít notice when I bought the jeep but it appears the metal around the wiper mount fatigues over time and breaks. In my case it caused the wiper linkage to break so obviously I have a bigger problem than just the wiper linkage.
Anyone else have this problem?
Thanks

So many of us have had this problem. Solutions include welding new material to strengthen the area around the pivots, using big washers, swapping to a YJ windshield, and others I am sure.

Also, the crown linkage will bend and break immediately. So find original. Or do like I did and use linkage from a YJ.

Good luck.

Dain

Thanks for the information,
So you used linkage from a YJ? with the original CJ windshield? Or did you swap for a YJ windshield as well.

I used my CJ windshield. But yes, I used YJ linkage with the original CJ wiper motor. It required enlarging the holes for the wiper pivots though. Honestly, it was one of the best things I did to my CJ since I use it as my daily driver. I need working and reliable wipers.

Unfortunately the metal around the spindle is cracked so I need to deal with that first.

Understood. But being cracked, it might be the right time to enlarge it for the YJ linkage.

Either way, good luck. And stay away from the crown linkage. Really. It is garbage.
