I've been restoring my dash this week. Yesterday was the speedo for repaint, polish, etc. Today are the stock voltage and oil pressure gauges. I'd like to remove the silver face paint and glass to polish, clean, and repaint the orange needles.
I've removed all of the hardware from the rear of the gauges, and have tried running a flat head around the edge of the silver face to pry the front face off, but have had no luck. No search results here there or everywhere are showing how-tos for this task.

Does anyone know how to disassembly these two gauges?

From what I gather, the Speedometer Assembly is do’able, but the smaller gauges require a special tool or may well not ever go back together the way they came apart.

There are people that specialize in gauge restoration. I found this reply at another website:

“I was going to take my Oil Pressure gauge apart but decided not to because the outer ring was too difficult to open up and I would have never been able to crimp it back to the way it was. The original clock was bad enough to open up just to replace the clouded lens with a new polycarbonate one.

The speedometer is just about the only gauge that you can have full access inside as it is easy to open up. The others, not so much and would now send to ISI instead.”

Great find. Really appreciate you finding that before I destroyed them while trying to disassemble them.

I'll stick with stock while they both work. I just don't like how faded the orange needle has gotten over the years.

I feel the same about my small, original gauges, faded.

There are small businesses that refurbish gauges, or you could replace with New ones that likely do not look original.

There may be a special tool or technique that would work. I did a fair internet search with little success. I did find a post by someone who had successfully got gauges apart and back together, but he didn’t mention how he did it and it was an old’ish post.

You could experiment, but you may wind up with a gauge you can’t get back together.
