Hey Guys,

Just bought a Powermaster 120 amp alternator, and I'm wondering if I need to upgrade the factory wiring. If so, what gauge cable do you recommend?

Thanks!

Josh

I've been thinking about an upgrade to the alternator. What did you get? What are some good options out there?

Hey Chris,

I got the Powermaster 7288. I spent hours trying to find something that was 100+ amps and was sure to fit. BTW Amazon vehicle filter is BS. I figured the 7288 is double the amperage of my old alternator but not ridiculously expensive ($170).

I know its a losing battle for an alternator to keep up with a winch, so i'm focusing on something that can keep up with my off-road lights, radio, etc.

I'll let you know when it comes next week, if I made the right choice.

Cheers!

Looks like I'm having one of those weeks guys. The alternator doesn't fit. The hinge bolt connects perfectly, but the top hole that screws into the belt tension adjuster channel is way off. the hole sticks out about an inch higher, which makes sense considering the alternator is much larger in diameter than the factor one. I guess I would have to buy a larger alternator bracket for it to fit. Looks like I'm sending another one back to amazon!

That sucks! Sorry to hear it Dude. I was kinda wondering if a higher amperage alternator would be physically bigger than the oem.

Thanks! I'm sure there's gotta be somebody selling a conversion bracket out there. The alternator is exactly the same as the factory one, except that its bigger in diameter.
