I think Iím going to do new lenses, h4 bulbs, new plugs, and the Daniel stern type replay setup on my cj7. My plan is to come off + battery, then fuse, run power wire along firewall toward fuse box on driver side. Mount relays on the rear side of the driver fender well, kinda facing brake reservoir. Then go into factory headlight harness with wires to the front.

My question is, how far on the switch side do I need to go for wiring? All the way to the dimmer switch in the floor? Just to the fuse box? Can I tie factory wires from fuse box to new wire going to the relays?

Also, would you use 12ga wire throughout, or 12 batt-relays-lights and maybe 14 switch to relay?

Thanks

If your stock harness is in decent condition just run the fused hot to the relay pin 30 and the gray from bulkhead connector to low beam relay term 86 then the gray to headlights to relay pin 87.
The gray with the tracer is high beam and wires the same way on a separate relay.

I wouldn't bother with 12ga wire until you tested for voltage at the light connectors after installing the relays - there's not really enough distance there that 16 vs 12 going to make a difference. If the connectors are all corroded than that is a different story

Why this as opposed to battery? I plan to put a fuse block near the battery for some other accessories as well as my headlight wiring. I was gonna come off battery, make that block hot, and feed from there.

Just ask for the h4 light bulb connector. The original connector on your harness might be compatible. Your vehicle was not originally equipped with h4 bulbs, unless you upgraded it.

Are all h4 bulbs the same?

I put my relays on my radiator core support, I pulled my signal wire directly from the headlight plug and the power and ground straight from the battery I think I used 14 gage maybe, works great

They share the same connector arrangement.
