Hey folks, new to the forum and to Jeep ownership here...

Just picked up a 71 CJ5. Right now I'm taking care of the safety things first so I'm starting a front disc conversion since the brakes were shot...

Anyways, it came with hard doors and hard top. It's pretty much all there and usable but not in "grea"t shape. I don't intend on ever using it. Am I breaking a cardinal sin by scrapping it? It just takes up so much room in the garage...I'm new to this so I just don't know if they are hard to find or anything and I'd hate to scrap it if someone would want it.

Thanks in advance!

I've never used any of my hardtops either. Try selling it! Put pictures up and put it as is.
My 1st jeep I traded for brush guard and a few other things. The 2nd I traded a brand new soft top with skeleton and doors complete. The one I have now I have it for sale. Don't just trash it, clean it up and make it look presentable.

Thanks! I listed it on Craigslist and local swap pages but no luck. I'll try cleaning it up a bit and try again.

Yeah never scrap ANY CJ parts. Good parts are getting harder & harder to get. Someone somewhere needs them

Along with what they said, it's the wrong time of year to sell a hard top. Give it a couple of months when it starts to cool down and Jeep owners everywhere that it snows start to think about snow and wanting a hard top.

If you were living in Florida or SoCal, I would say get rid of it, but Iowa gets pretty cold, and you're going to be missing that hard top when the snow is coming through the gaps in your soft top.

Any chance you could rig up a pulley/lift system that would secure your hard top to the ceiling of your garage? If your ceiling is high enough, it would be a good way to get it out of the way during the summer months.

I would least wait till winter comes, before deciding to dump it.

This is a example of a garage lift kit:

CJ5 hard tops are hard to come by and I think you should be able to sell it with out to much trouble.

BTW: Where I live in So-Cal. We see temps into the low 20* range. Sometimes, I wish I still had my HT.
