I bought a 74 CJ5 earlier this year that used to have the seats welded into the roll cage, making it so it was impossible to get into the tool box under the passenger seat. I decided I wanted to change the seats and how they were mounted. So I started searching all the CJ5 forums and classified sites looking for the stock seat brackets to put back in, I was finally able to find a drivers seat bracket. But I could never find the passenger one. So I decided to make one that would look and function like a stock one.
I used the same diameter of tube and 7 gauge steel as the originals. The only big difference is instead of having the latch mechanism to hold the seat down in the back. I used a detent pin above the hinge to keep the seat from lifting up.
I know the trouble I went through of looking for weeks and not being able to find one that works. And Id like to help others with the same problem get there jeeps back on the road.
So if any one needs one and is interested let me know and I can see about making more.

I have the same dilemma and gave up looking for those seat mounts. My tub is different and lacks the raised coffin, its the same on driver and passenger side. I will have an additional fuel tank under the passenger seat.

ZDD, can you list the size and type of material you used for the tube and flat bar... did you use cold rolled steel... your work looks awesome.

I believe my model had a long tube all the way across for both seats with a middle support. My online search results were very limited in detail and inconsistent. The classic CJ parts suppliers dont carry these mounts.

Patrick, that's a cool idea to have a second fuel tank under the passenger seat!

As for the material the tube is 1 in. outer diameter by 0.120 in. thick wall. The flat parts are 7 gauge or 3/16 in. thick and it is cold rolled steel.

I haven't seen a bracket that looked like the one your describing. But it sounds like the middle support would go down where the drivers seat bolts to the floor normally.
