Hello, New Jeep owner, well kind of. My Dad passed away in August 2018. He had signed over his 1980 CJ5 to me earlier in the year. He was 80 years old, had COPD and tinkered with the Jeep, probably not for the better as his eyesight was failing.
I got the Jeep running but it has a transmission issue. It has sat in my garage and I am having the Jeep looked at next week. Happy to finally get this thing going after all this time.

Dad says it's a 1980 CJ5. I am ashamed to admit I do not know a lot about Keeps, but am getting eager to get going. It looks pretty straight forward. It has a straight 6 in it.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear about your father passing away. Looks like something you can have fun with driving. This is a good place to learn about your jeep !

I'd think it would be great to restore something from my Dad... especially a nice CJ5.

Welcome aboard... looking forward to watching your progress.

Welcome aboard from Va!!! As already stated, sorry about your Dad, but what a great way to carry on with his tinkering!! You couldnít buy one anywhere that you would enjoy more.

You say you donít know much about Jeeps - well, youíre about to fix that - the fact you arrived here and have already started the conversation puts you on the right track. Just ask questions and watch the knowledge roll in.

And you get extra props for including a pic with your first post - WELL DONE!!

Sent from right here.......

Welcome to the site. I feel your pain brother. My dad passed away last year. I've got a CJ5 we worked on for years. Every time I fix something, I feel my dad giving me the thumbs up from above.

Let me just say, don't sell it. You'll regret it forever. I've seen too many people posting pictures of the family Jeep they sold off years ago, desperately trying to track down the current owner.

Does Harrah's casinos still have that huge car museum their in Reno ? When I was a kid we drove down from Oregon. 3 or 4 huge buildings with many hundreds of old cars that were in mint condition. Took hours to see them. One building was just older race cars.

No, I don't believe they do. Harrah's is actually closing and the building is becoming a high-end condo.

El Dorado (and the entire ROW group) bought Caesar's Entertainment (formerly Harrah's Entertainment) last year and kept the name, and then sold the local Harrah's facility. Fine with me, it was the worst most discombobulated mess of a casino/hotel I've ever been to.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Caesar's Entertainment locally. Can't imagine they won't have a presence here besides El Dorado, Circus Circus and Silver Legacy.

Probably sold long ago. Those would probably be worth 10s of millions now. Never seen a collection like that again, extremely large and museum quality. Many from early 1900s and 20 & 30s. The race cars were also impressive
