Tring to figure out original color.
Was told it was a light pink.1981 CJ7
But I can't find were they ever made a pink CJ7. Previous owner bought it in 1983 with 26,000 miles on it and the dealer painted it red to make the sell.

Fire wall tag
J101463. 87
PP. FF. 3EB

Paint code FF?

Found FE paint code - Forest Green

Other 1981 F paint codes:

FA -Transport Yellow
FB - Omaha Orange
FC - Federal Gray
FH - Olive Drab

One thing I have found when working with anything AMC any data can be subjective, so that code FF probably exists somewhere. Especially if it was pink in color originally. Like you I haven't found any jeep in pink from the factory.

It's a clean firewall tag and definitely FF code. I'll keep digging. Was hoping there might be a guru on here that had heard of that code.

Would you post the first part of your VIN number, everything except the last number that indicates the serial number. You trim code is for Blue, Bucket - High Back, Vinyl - Denim Seats. Thanks.

Main thing I'm trying to figure is paint. Was a 258/4-speed now 360/4-speed.

Those were usually Cadillac or Buicks as I remember.
I have friend that bought a Mary Kay CJ from another friend. It’s a 1980s CJ.
However, any off factory color would have 99 code. Earlier CJs had a 999 code.

Wow I've seen my share of MK cars but I never knew they did a CJ. Other than a picture I hope I never see a real one :)

I thought they were Caddies exclusively

I believe FF is a fleet code not a paint code and the Jeep was not for public use at the time of sale. The color could be most any color the company selected. I’ve seen the FF code on other 1980s CJs.

The only way to prove it is the PP code to the left (Special Sales Request and Order) however, those records are long gone.

As for the pink CJ

Vin tag with special order paint 99

Again, earlier CJs had a 999 paint code seems they dropped a 9 on the 76 and up models.
I’m not positive this is a Mary Kay CJ but it’s very possible. I’m not sure who else in the ‘80s would order a pink CJ. Inspected by the previous owner, the current owner, and myself we have all agreed the current color pink was applied at the factory.

Damb Posi how long have you been hanging onto those pictures just for this thread ? :) I know that is probably the color my daughter would have wanted the first 15 years of her life, but not so much now thank goodness. I've see a couple of pink pictures before but of early models

So the Jeep Body is a 1987 CJ7 according to the VIN.

Character

1st 1 = USA
2nd J = Jeep
3rd C = MPV
E = Export LHD
F = Export RHD
4th B = 151ci
L = 232ci
C = 258ci
H = 304ci
F = Diesel
5th B = Auto, Floor
A = Auto, Column
M = 4 speed
N = 5 speed
6th & 7th 85 = CJ5
86 = CJ6
87 = CJ7
88 = CJ8
8th A = 3,750 lbs
E = 4,150 lbs
9th- Check #
Check #
10th B = 1981
C = 1982
D = 1983
E = 1984
F = 1985
G = 1986
11th T = Toledo
12th to 17th ######

Here is the paint code for that year:

As POSI said, that is a special paint code. Your trim code indicates Black denim high back bucket seats.

Bottom line: Special paint code - paint it what every color you want and it will still be correct.

I see the 10th digit as a B = 1981

Well I went and paid for it yesterday and took some pictures. May have a idea on the PP. See pics below.
Previousowner said before dealer painted it it was pink with a pink panther on the hood.

Owens Corning Started their partnership with MGM in 1980 to start using the Pink Panther in their advertising for their pink insulation. Their headquarters were in Toledo Ohio. So they purchased Jeeps from the factory with custom pink paint for their fleet vehicles and put a pink panther decal on the hood.
