A More Subdued NAIAS Says Chrysler

| Chrysler's Director of Product, Brand and Sales Communications, Rick Deneau just posted on Chrysler's media-only blog that the 2009 NAIAS that kicks off 1/11 in Detroit will be like no other - gone will be all the freebies and crazy product announcements (what? no more Jeeps crashing through plate-glass windows?!) - in their place will be straight-forward product announcements and facts. Our show stand will bring the Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge brands together, reflecting the company’s Project Genesis initiative for a tri-branded dealer network. Take a look around our stand - you’ll see the brands even more together as a single company, and how we’re reducing costs. Gone are the Jeep waterfall, the Dodge Ram horns, the temporary offices and the rows of computers for complimentary Internet access. We also won’t be serving complimentary luncheons at our stand.
There are many other ways we’re saving money so we can invest more in our future. We won’t be hosting the media at the Firehouse hall across the street from the auto show, as we have done in years past. We’ve informed our executives that they will have to purchase their own tickets to the annual charity ball held during the Detroit show.
Less glitz and no giveaways. These are unfortunate but necessary steps to help return Chrysler to a solid footing. And with the government loan to help Chrysler bridge the financial crisis, it’s the right thing to do.
