In-Depth with the Liberty's Sky Slider Roof

Chrysler LLC recently published a short article on the 2008 Liberty's all new Sky Slider roof talking about its design and toughness.
Our long-time supplier ASC came up with the concept for the Sky Slider, which perfectly fits the Liberty image. Four times the size of a regular sunroof, the Sky Slider operates with a one-touch automatic switch that opens to rear or front. There’s also a convenient close button in the center that will close the Sky Slider from any position.

Our engineers tested the Sky Slider to the same level of quietness and leakage protection as any of our convertible tops. We spent a lot of time in the wind tunnel to minimize buffeting (that low-frequency pounding in your ears that convertible drivers know too well. It usually gets worse the faster you go.) We handled that problem well with a pop up wind diffuser that creates smooth flow of air over vehicle up to 80 mph.

The material of the Sky Slider is very similar to a convertible top. The woven acrylic fabric is easy to keep clean. We tested it with automatic car washes—no problems, although we do advise people to stay away from those power wands.

The Sky Slider doesn’t sacrifice body strength or roof crush results. The top seals up and Jeep promises a leak-proof experience. When closed, there's little noise seeping in, and when open, it's still easy to talk to passengers. Personally, I enjoy the open air at 80 miles per hour on the freeway. And if the phone rings, well … it’s just one touch to close it.
