The 1999 Jeep Cherokee was rated one of the "greenest" medium-sized sport utility vehicles by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE). The 2.5L, 4-cylinder, automatic-transmission Jeep Cherokee was rated #1 in both the California and Federally Certified categories, while the 2.5L, 4-cylinder, manual-transmission Jeep Cherokee was rated #2 in the Federally Certified category. CNN Interactive has the full story. We've also been seeing some news on the rec.autos.makers.jeep+willys newsgroup about some mid-year updates to the 99 Wrangler. Here's what somebody was reporting: ...the 5-hole Gambler wheel is replaced with the 15X8 Canyon wheel on the 30" package... the standard wheel on the Sahara package is now the 16X7 wheel previously used on the 5.9 Grand Cherokees....this wheel is to get a Michelin tire, but nobody seems to know what size yet... the optional alloy on the SE and Sport is still the Grizzly, but silver painted instead of dark grey... and lastly, a CD player is now available from factory... it is not the CD/tape player that comes on the Cherokees.
