Reader reports continue to come in regarding the current (and future) availability of the all new 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. This one comes from a reader in Alabama: With all of the talk about the availability of the JGC, I thought I would pass along what I knew. I was told in early September, by someone from Chrysler at 1-800-992-1997, that all restrictions were off but that Limiteds with the new V-8 and Quadra Drive would not be available until October. My dealer in Tuscaloosa told me a couple of weeks back that Limiteds can't even be ordered until November. I called 1-800-925-JEEP yesterday and was told that the Limiteds, Quadra Trac II, the V-8's, sunroofs, and even some colors were on restriction. The guy said his information was about a week old, and that I should call Chrysler. I just called Chrysler at 1-800-992-1997 and they said Mid-November on a loaded up Limited. Oh yeah, Patriot Blue will be a color, available mid-year 1999.
Here's a message from a reader in the Chicago area: I have been following some of the confusion about the new GC and its availability. I just took delivery of a brand new 99 GJC laredo with the 26F package, Flame Red, with the V8 and quadra drive transfer case, and some extras... ...snip... The dealership is in the Chicago area. So keep an eye peeled, they come in and go VERY fast from what the dealer tells me.
