Expanded Assembly, Trail Testing, New GC
Here's some tidbits of news we've collected over the past few weeks that have been filling up our inbox.
One of our readers was a recovery team leader on the trail at Camp Jeep and he saw some Jeep Engineers working - here's what he had to say:
But the rep for Jeep claims no ordering [for Rubicon Unlimiteds] will take place during this calendar year. The other thing I noticed was the 6 broken front differential housings on the Libertys. The engineers seemed very interested to see them 1st hand. Hopefully some improvements will be coming soon.
From The Toledo Blade, it looks like the Jeep Assembly plant in Toledo, Ohio will be getting expanded again:
Toledo City Council approved a package of tax abatements last night to create more than 600 jobs at an expanded Jeep assembly plant (full story here). The tax abatements, one of the last hurdles before DaimlerChrysler and its suppliers begin construction on the North Toledo site, will save the four companies $44 million in inventory taxes over 15 years. The companies are erecting four buildings to produce two new vehicles.
The 2005 Grand Cherokee was ranked the "best vehicle of the year" by the auto critic of The Post-Standard:
I expected a difficult decision, but after spending time with the 2005 class of cars and trucks, it turned out to be a no-brainer.
In my opinion, the best vehicle, for several reasons, is the 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
At first glance, the Grand Cherokee may appear to be little changed from 2004, but not one body panel is the same. The interior is all new, too, and it exhibits the same kind of quality that might be found in a Mercedes.
And that's exactly the point.
