Fake 2001 Cherokee Picture, Solar Yellow TJ

We've been getting lots of reports in from readers all over the country regarding the photo of the 2001 Cherokee we published earlier this week. The photo is indeed a fake, and one reader wrote in to prove it:
I checked out "Al's" webiste, and it seems our [dimwitted] friend conveniently forgot to post the actual article text with the "exclusive photo" of the KJ, and also neglected to mention the fact that the "photo" is an admitted computer-generated image...He didn't even get the release year right, he say's it's a 2002 model...SO, to defend the Truth and protect Journalistic Integrity (and to give your site the REAL story), here's the actual article text:
"In a bold styling move that trades on heritage and brand image, Jeep's 2001 Cherokee will feature the classic round headlamps, vertically-slatted grille and dropped fenders of the Wrangler model. The effect is like grafting a complete Wrangler front-end onto a slightly larger, modernized Cherokee body, as revealed by a photograph of a production-intent '01 Cherokee. The computer-generated image shown is based on that photo, which was recently shared with AI."
"The new Cherokee carries the KJ program code. It will be built at a new facility in Toledo, Ohio, adjacent to the existing Jeep plant. Like its predecessor XJ-series Cherokee, which was launched in 1983 as a 1984 model, the KJ will wear an all-steel unibody that's sized to keep it in the compact SUV segment. The roof will include a Duragno-like "step" to increase backseat headroom. Power comes from DaimlerChrysler's upcoming 3.7L overhead cam truck V-6."
"'Just when Nissan thinks it's got us beat with the Xterra, bam, the new Cherokee takes a totally different styling direction,' says a Jeep engineering source. 'The KJ will spring their heads around'"
Well, there it is. In our opinion, the most interesting part of the article is the last paragraph - this really makes us want to see an actual photo of the 2001 Cherokee.
A number of readers also sent in information about another "spy" picture of the 2001 Cherokee that appears on Automedia Online. We posted this picture on mike's totally free jeep news on November 23, 1998 - we (along with most of our sources and a number of readers who wrote us) believe it to be fake.
With all the talk about the new colors available for model year 2000 Jeeps, we thought we'd post post a picture we "borrowed" from the official Jeep web site of the 2000 Solar Yellow TJ.
