Okay, so we know that this isn't the latest news, but with the lack of any "real news" in the Jeep world lately, we thought we'd take the time to remind everybody about Camp Jeep's move to the east coast this year. This August 6-8, Nelson County, Virginia (near Charlottesville, in the Blue Ridge Mountains), Camp Jeep will be a gathering of hundreds (thousands?) of Jeeps and Jeep-lovers. There will be outdoor activities (hiking, biking, rafting, fishing, 4x4-ing), tech talks with Jeep engineers, activities for the kids, cooking classes, fireworks, a pre-release screening of a major motion picture, Saturday dinner and Sunday breakfast, and an outdoor concert. Some of the more interesting events include the Jeep 101 school (where you can get tips on 4-wheel driving), 4x4 trail rides, winching demonstrations, and the "Jeep Agility Challenge" where you test your skills in specially designed "tests" using the Wrangler, Cherokee, and Grand Cherokee. The cost is also reasonable - only $225 for a carload (Jeepload). You'd think that we were getting paid to advertise this event (we're not), but even we think that we'll be getting alot for our money. Lodging is not included, but there are numerous hotels and camp sites in the area. According to the Camp Jeep website: For the first time since its inception five years ago, Camp Jeep will move from the Rockies to the geographically diverse and historically rich Blue Ridge Mountains near Charlottesville, Virginia, and the Wintergreen Resort. The host site will be the spectacular 4,800-acre Oak Ridge Estate in Nelson County. The longitude may change, but the attitude won’t. Camp Jeep will still offer something special for every kind of Jeep owner and every age group. For three exciting days (August 6-8), you can enjoy four-wheeling, tubing down the James River, mountain biking, fly fishing, and hiking. There are technical talks with Jeep engineers, cooking demonstrations, archery, vehicle displays, a wide variety of kids’ activities, and outdoor concerts. If you like making discoveries in the area around Camp Jeep, Nelson County and Charlottesville offer excellent shopping, dining, and cultural activities. In addition, in Charlottesville you’ll find the stately homes of three famous presidents, including Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello. Plus, the 11,000-acre Wintergreen Resort offers its own special brand of recreational and lodging facilities.
