The Honda Accord and Toyota Camry are the most frequently stolen cars in the United States but pickup trucks, minivans and sport utility vehicles (SUVs) have also become hot targets, according to a study released on Monday.
``The study confirms an increase in theft of pickups, vans and SUVs on a national basis,'' said Ed Sparkman of the National Insurance Crime Bureau, which released the report.
``Vehicle thieves follow market trends and target the most popular vehicles because they provide the best market for stolen vehicle parts,'' he added. The insurance industry-supported group listed the top 10 most stolen vehicles in 1998 as: Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, Chevrolet full-size pickup, Jeep full-size SUV (Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee), Honda Civic, Oldsmobile Cutlass, Ford full-size pickup, Ford Mustang, Dodge Caravan and Toyota Corolla.
