Belvidere, Illinois plant to churn out 2 new Jeeps models in 2006
Following up on the recent news that DaimlerChrysler's Belvidere, Illinois plant will soon become the assembly plant of 2 new Jeep models, the Rockford Star (the closest major newspaper to Belvidere) is reporting that the 2 new Jeep models will debut in 2006. Here's a snippet:
In February 2006, Lindland said the plant will roll out a Jeep sport utility vehicle, named Patriot or Scout.
“What we found from a variety of sources is that it is very square and about the size of the Subaru Forester,” she said. The price is expected to be in the low $20,000s, similar to the Jeep Wrangler or Liberty.
The third vehicle will be an entry-level Jeep SUV, based on the Jeep Compass, a concept car first shown in 2001. Lindland said the Compass was “more along the lines of the (Subaru) Outback,” which should make it appealing to women.
Production on this vehicle is expected to begin in July 2006, with each vehicle costing $15,000 and $16,000.
