Among the upcoming models at Daimler are a new CL coupe next year, redesigned C-class compacts and SL roadsters in 2000 and a makeover of the E-class sedans in 2002. Daimler also is bringing out its Smart microcar in Europe this year and, on the horizon, the ultra-luxury Maybach touring sedan.
Chrysler's new product blitz includes the next generation Chrysler Cirrus, Dodge Avenger and Plymouth Breeze midsize sedans in early 2000, a new Sebring convertible later that year and revamped versions of its minivans, Jeep Cherokee and Dodge Ram pickup in 2001.
At a meeting with auto analysts in early September, Chrysler also unveiled several versions of its Pronto series of concept vehicles. Included were a mini sport-utility, a sedan and a station wagon. Suppliers say Chrysler plans to use its current Neon assembly plant in Toluca, Mexico, to build Pronto cars and trucks.
