Chrysler Group reported U.S. sales of 185,602 units for July 2002. Jeep(R) Liberty sales remained strong, setting a July sales record, up 23 percent from last July. Chrysler PT Cruiser had a solid month, selling 11,735 units. Chrysler Group's overall car sales were up 17 percent, with most models reporting double-digit increases. Total Chrysler Group sales declined four percent compared to last July when calculated on a day-rate basis. (July 2002, 25 days - July 2001, 24 days.)
Jeep sold 13,586 Liberty vehicles in July. "In the mid-sized sport- utility vehicle segment, consumers continue to recognize the quality, styling and capability that Jeep Liberty has over its competition," said Gary Dilts, Senior Vice President - Sales. Jeep Grand Cherokee reported a solid sales performance with 20,167 units sold, up four percent compared to last year and the second-best sales month of 2002.
