After several failed attempts to press a bearing off of an output shaft of my Dana 20 transfer case using a cheap bearing splitter, I decided it was time to invest in some 'real' hardware for my tool collection.

I did allot of shopping and decided on a set of tools from OTC - specifically the 4518 kit. It's collection of assorted bars and two different size splitting blocks suited my needs perfectly.

Product Summary
This combination set includes our two most popular bearing splitters (2" and 3"), four sets of hex push-puller legs and a bar-type puller head with a 9/16" forcing screw. Separator tools are used with bar puller and legs for a wide variety of pulling jobs. These really make the job easier.

Product Description
Item #: OTC4518. Features & Benefits:
  • Separator tools are used with bar puller and legs for a wide variety of pulling jobs.
  • The 5" puller cross-bar with a 6-1/4" forcing screw or each of the bearing separators may also be used separately or in combination with other pullers or tools.
  • A blow-molded plastic storage case keeps set contents organized and protected from loss.
  • Weight 10 lbs 8 oz
Includes:
  • Our two most popular bearing “splitters” (2" and 3")
  • Four sets of hex push-puller legs
  • A bar-type puller head with a 9/16" forcing screw
1st impressions is that this is a high quality professional mechanic tool. The forgings are well made and all the flash is ground or removed. The bolts and other hardware are all grade eight and the quality is superb.

Actual usage: I fitted the splitter to a particularly difficult bearing I had tried to press off with my cheap splitter (I bent it) and had no trouble this time. The forged splitter held up just fine.

I purchased the kit from Amazon for $76.49 with a suggested retail of $116.95, your purchasing price may vary...

OTC makes most all of our (Toyota's) Special service tools. They are very durable. I think they get their metal from venus. I prefer a few of their tools over snap-on's. OTC's O2 sockets don't flex even with a breaker bar bending to turn them.
