For years I have been missing one of the original windshield hold down clamps for my CJ5. I have searched for replacements but never have found any thing that functions as well.
After placing an add here at Jeep-CJ.com I was informed that AA sold replacements and knowing what quality products that AA is known for, I thought I would order a set - sight unseen.
The order transaction went smoothly and within minutes a new set of hold downs (#176127) were on their way. A five day delivery time was estimated from CA to S GA, reasonable but unexpectedly short. On delivery day I checked the tracking online and the package had been delayed. I had somewhat expected that (no fault of AA)...
The clamps arrived well packaged and in alright shape. I'm going to assume they most likely had been laying around for quite a while as the package was a little dirty and somewhat dingy. Once opened, the clamps showed some wear from the aluminum clamps rubbing against them selves. I'm sure the years of these things laying around have taken it's toll on them - the instructions show a print date of Feb 1999...
The package include 2 windshield blocks, 2 dash blocks, 2 knobs and the assorted hardware needed to mount them. The clamps are cast aluminum and are very beefy.
So far they look pretty good but I'm not sure how tight they will hold down the windshield. I have never found anything that holds as good as the original hooks and cleats. I'll report back after a little driving. I'm worried that they just won't hold the windshield tight enough... Only time will tell!
