I traded my nephew a 12' fishing boat & trailer for this 75 CJ5 back in December. I knew going in that I was going to take it down to the frame and start over. Besides a general clean up it needed a new brake system, new wiring harness, steering work, new tires, and who knows what else until I started tearing it apart. My goal is to build a reliable trail rig. I want it street legal, but most of the time it will be used off road.
I needed to have a decent place to work on it, so I spent most of January working on the garage (insulation, sheetrock, lighting, more electrical and storage space for my wife's craft stuff). Moved the Jeep into the garage the 1st of Feb. and started taking it apart.
Being new to Jeeps, it took me awhile to sort out exactly what I have - 75 CJ5, 304 V8, T15 trans, Model 20 TC, Dana 44 rear & Dana 30 front with 3:73 gears. It has an existing 2 1/2 inch Rancho lift on it and 33x12.5x15 tires. The tub is steel with a little minor rot and the front end is a one-piece fiberglass unit.
The photos are from the 1st... [Read More]

Its not going to be anything radical or off the wall but Im going to chronicle it here. Over the weekend I'll post more pics and give you guys an idea where Im headed. For now heres the starter pic:

Not sure if it's taboo around here or not, but I'm in the process of putting a 2001 5.3L GM V8 in my CJ...and since I'm a newbie to this site, I figured I would share. My goals for this rig is to have a VERY reliable, strong, driver that can hit and occasional MILD trail (I have a full tube buggy on one-tons that I can use for the hardcore stuff...but trailering it everywhere just sucks.).
I added this CJ to my fleet of Jeeps early this past summer. It had been sitting in the weeds for a couple years and was suffering from severe neglect. Some birds had made the grille and heater housing into a sparrow condo and there were other unmentionable critters living in it as well. I trailered it home and had it running the same weekend (battery, starter solenoid, fuel pump, cleaned fuel tank, water pump, some lighting and electrical repairs). It was pretty rusty and a little beat up, but in surprisingly good condition considering its past. My girlfriend and I cruised it all over the place through the summer (and did some light wheelin), but the 258 just wasn't doing it... [Read More]

I just bought this 77 Golden Eagle and I am planning on restoring it real soon so I figured I'd go ahead and start my build thread.
It has a 304 V8, T4, Dana 20, Dana 30. The nice thing about it is that it has a fiberglass tub, hood, and fenders so not to much rust to worry about. The frame is solid....it just has surface rust.
I am on a budget so I will be doing most of the work myself. I do have a good mechanic friend that will help out and let me use the lift at his shop and not charge me and arm and a leg. I also have a buddy that's a retired bodyman that is going to do the paint job for me cheap.
The first thing that I am going to do is pressure wash the HELL out of it! It has mud and dirt everywhere. I plan on cleaning up the motor, painting it, and replacing whatever is needed. I will also redo the whole interior, since it doesn't have much.....at least nothing that I can reuse. I also plan on replacing the lift kit since the one on it now is pretty worn out. Last thing would probably be getting it painted. Not sure if I am sticking... [Read More]

For years I have been missing one of the original windshield hold down clamps for my CJ5. I have searched for replacements but never have found any thing that functions as well.
After placing an add here at Jeep-CJ.com I was informed that AA sold replacements and knowing what quality products that AA is known for, I thought I would order a set - sight unseen.
The order transaction went smoothly and within minutes a new set of hold downs (#176127) were on their way. A five day delivery time w... [Read More]

These Shackle Hangers are HEAVY DUTY! Milled out of a solid block of steel. Mount with 3 bolts instead of 2 like stock hangers do. Front uses existing hole already in the frame. Rear needs extra hole drilled (I used a 21/36 bit) and the frame had slots on each side where the new hole was drilled so I was about to put the bolt through the slot in the frame and through the hole and get it bolted up. They cost $145.08 for the set of 4 with grade 8 mounting hardware. Worth every penny!

After several failed attempts to press a bearing off of an output shaft of my Dana 20 transfer case using a cheap bearing splitter, I decided it was time to invest in some 'real' hardware for my tool collection.
I did allot of shopping and decided on a set of tools from OTC - specifically the 4518 kit. It's collection of assorted bars and two different size splitting blocks suited my needs perfectly.

We're a bunch of enthusiasts who don't have hundreds of thousands of dollars to dump into our hobbies. We have build days, barbeques, we drink beer, shoot guns (not in that order usually), we have military and civilian members and we are pro family and pro America. Come and wheel with us.

We are a fellow off-road community that welcomes anything off-road, even mall-crawlers. Our site is not child friendly so be careful when browsing (PG-13 to R rated profanity / non-nudity). We welcome anyone in the area to join us for rides, and meet and greets!
