Agree on the dead/dying rigs. Look for people who have customized their rigs and have left over parts. Or got in over their heads and gave up.

I've found the best place to find stuff like this, is craigslist.
craigslist classifieds: jobs, housing, personals, for sale, services, community, events, forums

You must have better parts stores than around here. Or your rig is still basically stock.
Mine is an 83 CJ7 with a 75 AMC 401 with a GM ignition system. The parts store has the employees that can only look on a computer, so they get lost easily.
Craigslist is a good source also, but I have found that fellow Jeepers seems to be the way to go.

For me it is looking for used mostly as the others have said. (save sum cash)
If I'm going new (or used) I go to my local 4x4 shop, he is usually cheaper than the internet, and if it is the wrong part he is only a few miles away.
He also installs what he sells, soooo if I have problems with the install I can ask him about it.

I've the same engine setup, then add Dana 60's & a T-19. I've found it's best to spend time on the computer & have part#'s. If you can wait ,I think it better order on line to. Usually better prices.

Longhorn,
What's the difference between the T-18 and a T-19?
TVL,
Sorry for hijacking your thread
