I'm looking at a '53 CJ3B. It has a "4th" shift rod between the transmission shift levers and the transfer case shift levers. The owner "thinks" it's an overdrive. Any thoughts? Thanks

Sounds like an overdrive. If you can see the linkage going to a unit mounted on the back of the transfer case, it should be an overdrive or possibly a PTO. They both mount on the back of the transfer case.

An old flattie with a Warn overdrive is a great find. Here is some history from Herm the Overdrive Guy. I use to have a 1947 CJ2A with one and loved it.
