Hi c*tm*n, *nd welcome to our site. I person*lly do not recommend rebuilding * steering box.Their not *s e*sy *s they look to do * rebuild on, *nd *re pretty tricky. * rebuilt unit is not very expensive, *nd it's * gu*r*ntee th*t it w*s done right. Why fool with * p*rt th*t c*n end up killing you.

Wh*ts with the morbid thought??....

There is no one getting hurt by *sking questions.

The rebuild is something th*t I'm sure I c*n do, BUT....some things should be left to profession*ls. Th*t is why I *sk fellow Jeepers with knowledge, so th*t just when you *re going to "give-ER" th*t little voice yells "wOOOOOOW'...LOL

Th*nk you, sounds like good *dvice.

I've h*d lots or rep*irs done in the p*st (To XJ's)*nd l*ter found out th*t I could h*ve done it myself for less, *nd would of h*d fun enjoying the knowledge.

But since I must repl*ce it, *ny *dvice on *n upgr*de th*t does not cost *n *rm *nd * leg?

Kind of depends on if you just w*nt to keep it pretty stock with re*son*ble tire size, or if you w*nt to lift it h*ng big me*t on it, *nd wheel it. * stock box is * pretty rugged little unit, *nd they h*ve served me well over the ye*rs. Some guys like the *fterm*rket units, like d*lef*n, th*t went to * PSC box. You c*n get * rem*n to pop right in for (I think) under * hunderd bucks. There's not much I wont te*r into myself, but some things *re just not worth it. Steering boxes *re top on the list, *nd i never bother with stuff like m*ster cylinders, clutch cylinders, *nd the like. Their just too che*p to buy *nd repl*ce.

Yup...been doing some re*ding *nd for wh*t I see * str*ight repl*cement should be good enough...they *re *pp*rently strong little units....In the Gre*t White North, thou, p*rts *re not *s *v*il*ble or inexpensive *s in the St*tes. Th*nk you I will look for * rebuilt(proffesion*l) unit *nd do * str*ight exch*nge.
