Went on a camping/wheeling expedition this past weekend. It rained heavy most of the ride there.
We arrived Friday afternoon and setup camp.
This is one of the premier wheeling spots in New England and their green trails are others black trails. Its a difficult property to wheel, when it rains some obstacles are near impossible even for the buggies.
After setting up camp I went on a green trail leading a buggy on 42's. He was running a spool in the rear and air locker in the front, I was on 33's locked in the rear. He tried to run the trail with just his rear spool but that didn't last long before he had to locked the front. I worked hard getting through the trail, got a tug backwards once when I got myself high centered on a rock.
Saturday we ran green and blue, I didn't want to crush my tub so we did some rig swapping. I ended up running a CJ5 on Qs.
After we finished lunch on the trail all hell broke loose, the sky turned black, winds kicked up, and we had a huge thunderstorm. Aside for the thunder and lightening it was kinda comical, everyone was making a bee line for camp. Most had no tops (me). It was raining so hard it made it difficult to see the rig behind me. At one point I got out of the jeep to check behind to see if they were coming, I must have been out of the Jeep for all of 30 second, when I went to climb back in I noticed I had a good size puddle in my seat. It really made no difference at that point, I was already completely drenched, so I sat in that big puddle!
We arrived at camp and the sun came out shortly after. Changed into some dry cloths and started on the cold ones, followed by a catered BBQ.
Sunday we did some green/ blue/ black trails.
Damage, the only damage a CJ had on this trail was a broken driveshaft. A tj broke a front axle shaft, we tried to remove the shaft but it was stuck pretty good, I'm thinking the splines may have been twisted or the locker stuck on. An atlas front yoke broke and chewed up the wiring harness. I repaired the harness and the owner replaced the yoke. A yoda sheered off the knuckle studs and had to be towed back to camp. The front tires were removed and another rig towed him out and onto his trailer.
