My old gauge had s and 1 on it a purple wire to the s and a read to the 1. On the new gauge it has s - +. Do I assume s For the purple from the sending unit Red for the + and run a ground to the - for a good connection?

Who makes the gauge? Does the gauge have a built in light. OEM gauge has a plug in light. The difference being the ground is for the light, I think. Picture or the manufacturer would help figure it out.

The gauge I found in my tickle trunk of left over parts is a Rugged Ridge China I suppose. I will replace later with a better one. I just was not sure about the one mark and the positive on the new one. I kind of wanted to compare to the old one to see if it was the sender. The light just pops in the new one like the old one.

Yes on that gauge, the - is the ground, + is 12v from the ignition, and S is to the sending unit.
