Hi everybody,

I own a couple of classic cars and am just beginning to look into buying a Jeep. Since you guys seem to be the experts, what advice could you give me on model and must-have additional parts? I'm looking for occasional but very functional use and don't mind (love) doing the work myself.

Can't wait to hear back.

Are you looking for a completely stock type vehicle to be used as a driver and wheeler or is something modified OK? It really depend allot on those questions.

IMHO -

If you want a stock vehicle to drive and wheel with you need to really look at a later model as the stock very early ones are 1) hard to find, 2) expensive, 3) impractical at high way speeds (they just weren't built to go 60mph).

If you want a mildly modified CJ for road and fun, then I would still stick to a late model for the above reasons.

But if anything goes, IMHO - any year is OK as most CJ's that are extensively worked over have had complete engine, driveline, suspension and steering makeovers.

Or, if you want just something that get to the mud hole and have a good time, again any year is going to be OK. All CJ's are capable off-roaders...

BTW - what classics do you own? Funny thing about CJ owners... They pretty much like just about anything that runs on wheels! At least I do!

I get it, I'm a Jeep owner and ad-block detectors kinda stink but ads are needed on this site. This is a CJ site, all the ads are set for autos (some times others get through.) I cannot make them just for Jeeps but I try.
