I’m almost completed putting power steering into my 84 Cj. Everything from my donor 6cyl matched right up to the 4 cyl. Except the pressure hose. No biggie, ordered it and installed. Only problem I’m seeing is with the pump. I used all the original parts but the belt is slightly off. 518e8ea48ac9eeacd7eb7eb8b6aaaec5.jpg9469e4685befc9e721a40c68b0b2cc3b.jpg

I’m wondering if I’m missing some sort of spacer. Thinking of just shimming it with washer.

The only thing I can think of is the water pump pully having a different depth. Here's mine ignore the damagecab721165c8f41687b3d439f2e7195fd.jpg6f34dd91073b7852e5c5cf7036f05992.jpg

Maybe try some type of spacers behind the bracket ? Could be the pulley is different, took mine off a few months ago and just can't remember. I know I saved it just in case. With old jeeps you just never know

Here's a factory 4 banger power steering. It's off as welld16bfba65ba3370279a12bf9d88ce28b.jpg

Mine was aligned correctly :poke:

Just a few months ago I removed my 4 banger out of my CJ. Was working like a champ with 238,000 miles, but it and I are no longer young and have many miles, and I didn't want to do this in my 70s. The 258 I bought and rebuilt, the PS pump lined up great but the alternator needed some spacers. Was a pretty easy fix

My 4.2 is posted above with the busted fan is aligned perfectly

looking at the pictures i see that it might be the power steering pump pulley look at the pictures you see that the pump pulley sets out further than the one you have.
