Rebuilding my AMC 232 and just wondering what's the proper way/orientation to install the hydraulic lifters?

the non roller lifters need only to be orientated with the flat end down. There is a slight bevel ground on the bottom of a Flat Tappet lifter that corresponds to the slight angle ground on the camshaft lobe. the rearward angle ground on the camshaft lobe in conjunction with the bevel in the lifter face pushes the camshaft to the rear of the block and keeps it there so it will not "walk" forward/rearward this also causes the lifter to spin in its bore keeping an even wear pattern on the lifter face as well as helping to prevent metal to metal contact. I have had a lifter stop rotating before.... does nasty things to the bottom of the engine :chug: use plenty of camshaft break in lube on the face of the lifter, follow your camshaft manufacturers recommendation on the break in
