Hi Everyone

I have 78 CJ5 with the Foot Pedal E-Brake Mechanizen and it doesn't hold anymore. Has anyone ever replace it with a Hand Pull Tyoe/

Solution
I've never replaced one. They are easily repaired in most cases. Process I use:

1. Remove brake cable and remove parking brake assembly from Jeep.
2. Use angle grinder to grind heads off 2 rivets on front and back of case, one that the pedal pivots on and one that holds the ratchet dog/catch.
3. Take case apart and remove interior barrel pins that rivets go through.
4. Buy 1--1/2"x1 1/2" bolt, washer and nylon lined lock nut; 1--3/8"x 1" bolt,
washer, and nylon lined lock nut; and one 1/2" by 5/8" round steel insert.
5. Cut steel insert off and keep a 1/2" length.
6. Drive or press the steel insert into the 5/8" diameter hole on the pedal.
7. Use a file to carefully sharpen the ratchet teeth on the pedal.

8. Drill out both side of the cover where the previous barrel rivet went
through the pedal to 1/2" diameter.
9. Drill out both sides of the cover where the rivet that held the ratchet dog/
catch was to 3/8" diameter.
10. Clean, prime and paint assembly.
11. Reassemble using the 3/8" bolt on the ratchet dog/catch and the 1/2"
bolt on the pedal pivot.
12. Make sure to smooth any rough areas and lubricate during reassembly.
