enlighten me Pete. Where is orefield? I grew up in central Pa along the susquehanna river. I remember going to a drive in near us when I was a kid.

It would be Northeastern Pa. About 50-60 miles North of Philadelphia. Nearby cities are Allentown , Bethlehem and Easton with Allentown being the closest. My work is an Allentown address.

ah....the heart of eastern Pa steel country. Ive been to allentown once, but that was to go to the fair grounds for a Alabama concert. I've lived in TN since 87', but we got a new drive in here about 5 years ago. Three screens.

Yeah my brother worked at Bethlehem steel for a quite a few years. Everything has changed since those days. Theres a Casino and Entertainment plaza on that land now. As soon as I get the Laredo a little safer I think I'll head down to Shankwielers and catch a movie.

I took my CJ to a drive in movie years ago, and lowered the windshield for a better view.

We have atleast 2 drive- ins
around my area(Northwest Ga) if anybody is close by. I think its amazing people have these still open. Today's world or today's kids need things like this.

Must get pretty good attendance then I would hope. Just thinking about it makes me wonder why I havent went to one in so long.

Thats awesome. I was thinking of just turning around the rear bench seat and putting the tailgate down.

I agree with you about the kids needing stuff like this. It took a little while but my kids are starting to enjoy stuff like this. Once they finally put the Xbox and Ipods down a little they can be amazed by little things. Ive heard "Ooooohhs and Aaaaahhs" recently over butterflys and rocks. It is definately something I enjoyed along with them.

Funny running across this thread today. Our drive in theater burned down last night. Grease fire in at the snack bar. Fire department couldn't get in for all the cars trying to get out. I hope they rebuild.

I came by ours they other sat night and the line was out the gateand down the side of the road.

!

I drive by this one every day on my way to work. Ive seen a bunch of movies there , but none recently. I had no idea it was the oldest one still in operation.

Pete, I'm in Maxatawny and know exactly where Shankweiler's is on 309. Where are you located? If you ever need another set of hands for workin' on the Jeeps, let me know, I'm right down the road and could use a good learning experience.

Been meaning to get to the drive-in, but need the radio in the Jeep first... oh well. Still love fireworks with the top down!

Im about 15 North of Shankweilers. Right now Im working 12 days ( 12 hr days thrown in there :( ) on 2 days off so wrench time has been very Limited. Things are supposed to slow down a little in April so remind me again then. :D

Re: !

Thanks Pete.

Saw this thread a couple days ago and made plans for the drive in tonight. Been a few years and we are down to only one in Az! It recently went digital camera and sound so that will be both cool and sad. Like missing the sound of an old record or seeing the flicker in an old movie, something is lost.

That kinda sucks about the digital ...but in todays world its probably the one thing that will keep that drive in alive. Enjoy your movie and share the experience. :chug:
