here i go again... had to buy/install new rails and strap on the old fuel tank on my CJ5. relatively easy.. looked at my rear crossmember and realized p.o.
must have gotten a new drill for xmas! he mounted a 2" ball hitch and proceeded to tow something large.. bad idea.. that brings me to my new problem... how does one remove rear crossmember? i purchased a new one
and have removed all bolts on old xmem. any secrets?? hit it a little with
small sledge hammer but it won't budge.

thanks for the help!! radman

My '83 CJ7's rearmost cross-member was welded on (top and bottom to the frame rails). I took a cutting torch to it.

drill out stuck bolts and rivits
cut welds
get a nice welder znd weld up a crossmember/bumper/receiver out of a good peice of 5/16th rectangular tubing

found the welds and will wait a while to remove old xmember. no rivets on
my 79 tho!

thanks radman

wow I had the same problem when I bought my five. Everyone must have thought they look strong lets go pull a heavy boat with only 2 bolts. The work never ends!
